South Korea vs Portugal: TV channel, kick-off - The US Sun
Kick off will be at 12am in South Korea while it will be the same in Portugal as it is in the UK. Team newsSouth Korea will be waiting with bated breath to see if Kim Min-jae will be available for this one. He was injured prior to the defeat to Ghana and was withdrawn early. Since that game, he hasn’t been training but there is hope that he will be fit to play a part. Elsewhere, Hwang Hee-chan is yet to have played a role having come into the World Cup with a hamstring issue but he could be closer to involvement.
Danilo Pereira won’t play a part in this one as he fractured three ribs in training over the weekend. There is a belief that he will be fit to be involved later in the tournament, though. Predicted line-upsSouth Korea (4-2-3-1): Kim (Seung-gyu), Kim (Moon-hwan), Kim (Min-jae), Kim (Young-gwon) Kim (Jin-su); Jung, Hwang (In-beom); Lee, Na, Son (Heung-min); Cho. Portugal (4-2-3-1): Costa, Dalot, Pepe, Dias, Guerreiro; Carvalho, Nunes; Silva, Fernandes, Leao; Felix. The story so farSouth Korea are staring elimination from the World Cup in the face as they prepare for their final game of Group H. They largely kept Uruguay’s attacking players quiet, but weren’t effective enough themselves in front of goal. With a point on the board, they will have targeted Ghana as a beatable team, but they left themselves with too much to do against the Black Stars.
Portugal were dealt a blow in the aftermath of the win against Uruguay. Nuno Mendes was forced out of the game before half-time and he has subsequently been ruled out for the remainder of the World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo and Otavio are both doubts for the South Korea clash as they have missed training sessions. The former may still be selected on Friday but Fernando Santos won’t want to take any unnecessary risks so could leave out the 37-year-old.
They are likely to stick to their 4-3-3 formation (can play like a 4-3-1-2). Strengths: Depth of their squad. Portugal truly might rest some players for this game, with their qualification for the next round guaranteed. The thing is, their squad has enough top talent available that they are likely to get a result with a slightly weakened side. The talent in midfield especially should enable the team to hold onto the ball, with the team averaging 61% possession in their opening games. Weaknesses: Chasing records. This Portuguese team has talent everywhere, with true game-changing talent at each level. But I could see the team forcing the ball to Ronaldo to try and get the pressure of his personal record off his back ahead of the knockout games. That brings its own type of pressure and could allow Korea to get a foothold in the game.

This Portugal team looks motivated to chase records. Cristiano Ronaldo started it off in the opening game, where he became the first men's player to score in five World Cups (quite the feat as it spans 20 years! ), and he is also trying to become the highest Portuguese scorer at a World Cup after his 'goal' was taken away from him.

South Korea Team Breakdown South Korea still has an opportunity to get through into the next stage of the competition, but they need to get a win here. That might be a hard ask against this Portugal team though, who is looking strong. But Portugal could rotate some of their squad for this one to rest them ahead of the knockout round. Korea is likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1.
Strengths: The ability of Son Heung-min. The Tottenham star hasn't really shown his ability in the World Cup, with teams looking to eliminate him from the game and force the rest of the team to do the work. But having a player of his ability at the business end of the field will always give Korea a chance of converting a chance into a goal. Portugal has some solid defenders, but their defense can be beaten- just look at the opening game where Ghana managed to score two. Son has a real chance of becoming even more of a national hero in this one. Weaknesses: The weakness of this team is that they are yet to win a game. After a goal-less draw in their opening game, they allowed Ghana to get the crucial winner in their second game.
South Korea vs Portugal: World Cup 2022 previewPortugal are already through to the World Cup knockout stages, but can seal top spot in Group H when they face South Korea on the final day of group matches in the tournament. After wins over Ghana and Uruguay in their opening two games, Fernando Santos’ side look in good shape to go deep into the knockout rounds, with Cristiano Ronaldo firing for his country despite an acrimonious exit from Manchester United on the eve of the finals. Bruno Fernandes bagged a brace in Portugal’s 2-0 win last time out, while South Korea were edged out 3-2 by Ghana in a thrilling game, which puts the Asian side at risk of elimination.
Heung-min Son is the driving force behind South Korea’s chances, but the Tottenham star hasn’t been fully fit and firing, with his team collecting just one point from their opening two encounters. They need to beat Portugal to have a shot at the last 16. Here’s all you need to know about the match... Date, kick-off time and venueSouth Korea and Portugal meet at Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan on Friday, December 2, 2022, the final day of group stage fixtures.
Mohammed Kudus and Cho Gue-seng traded a pair of goals each but Mohammed Salisu’s opener decided the outcome of the match to leave the Koreans in trouble. Portugal have already done enough to secure safe passage to the last 16. An exciting, close-run victory against Ghana preceded a more professional 2-0 win against Uruguay and there is, subsequently, not much riding on this game for Santos’ side. All the talk coming into the World Cup was about Ronaldo but it is Bruno Fernandes who has put his nation on his back.

On the pitch, Korea will surely recall Na Sang-Ho, who was dropped to the bench against Ghana. Portugal could make changes, with Nuno Mendes a likely injury absentee after hobbling off in the Uruguay match. Danilo Pereira and Otavio are also likely to be unavailable with injuries. Ronaldo himself is only rated as having a “50/50” chance of playing after an injury that has limited him in training this week, believed to be knee pain. South Korea vs Portugal predictionSon and company have looked a little out of sorts in this tournament so far, failing to get going against Uruguay and leaving themselves with too much work to do against Ghana. Santos may well ring the changes to rest some of his Portugal stars, but they have the squad depth that should mean they’ll have too much. Portugal to cruise to a third successive group victory and lay down something of a marker to their knockout stage rivals.
